T
ampa, Fla., April 28, 2006—The Geospatial Information & Technology Association (GITA) announced today that Duke Power Company, Charlotte, N.C., was named the recipient of a 2006 GITA Excellence Award. The award recognizes the dedication, insight, and high degree of initiative in the outstanding application of geospatial technology. The award was presented during the Opening Session of GITA’s Annual Conference 29, held April 23-26, 2006, at the Tampa Convention Center in Tampa, Fla.
For more than 25 years, Duke Power Company has had many outstanding accomplishments in the geospatial industry. So, when they revamped their GIS in the late 1990s, they strived for perfection and came up with A Total Land and Asset System(ATLAS).
This new Web application gave the corporation its first enterprise-wide view of the GIS. Since then, new GIS interfaces/applications have been built—Mobile Engineering Design, Mobile Web View, Graphical OMS, One-Call, and Property Tax. Besides the T&D electrical data, Duke has added company-owned land, fiber, and BPL to the GIS.
“Duke Power is proud to be selected for the GITA Excellence Award. This award validates our current ATLAS GIS Data Improvement Initiative,” said Ronald C. York, Manager, ATLAS Landbase.
