2007 Ed Forrest Internship Program

Company Participation Information

Would your organization benefit from hiring a highly motivated GIS intern in 2007?

Everyone benefits as part of GITA's internship program. Students receive hands-on experience; companies have the opportunity to evaluate a potential new hire for weeks longer than they do under traditional recruiting methods!

By participating in the internship program, GIS-related companies have the chance to hire a young, enthusiastic student who is knowledgeable in the latest technologies. The students, who are juniors or above, are carefully selected by GITA after a review of their application, college transcripts, letters of recommendation, and short essay. In the past, students have frequently gone on to permanent employment with the organization they interned with.

Program Description
GITA will offer at least one $2,000 stipend to a selected student to offset travel and living expenses incurred as a result of obtaining an internship with one of the association’s corporate members or other approved companies. The stipends are awarded on a competitive basis, selected from completed applications.

Resumes of all qualified students who complete the internship application will be included in the association’s internship clearinghouse. These will be circulated to GITA corporate member companies and other approved organizations, with stipend winners identified. The students will also be given the contact information for the participating companies.

Please note that it is the responsibility of the students and companies to make the initial contact regarding internships. GITA provides the contact information for both parties but does not make the specific arrangements.

company participation
If your company is interested in participating, contact GITA no later than February 28, 2007 by e-mailing amurgel@gita.org or by calling 303-337-0513. Student applications are due by February 28, 2007. The contact information of qualified applicants will be provided to the participating companies by the end of March.
