A Middle-Tier MAF/Tiger Voter District Editing Tool
Mr. Mark Millman, Mizar LLC;
Mr. Joseph Seppi, CMS, PMP, Woolpert, Inc.
Coordinating Voter District updates requires State government to manage inputs from Counties using a variety of GIS and procedures. A simple, secure, scalable middle-tier program based on the MAF/Tiger dataset provides Secretaries of State and Boards of Elections with a single point of submission, visualization, review, and authorization, and the ability to edit voting districts and census blocks. The application leverages Oracle Spatial, Oracle MapViewer and open source tools such as MyFaces/Trinidad and Java Persistence Architecture (JPA).
Combining Vector and Raster Data for Hydro Flow Analysis
Mr. Brandon Bergenroth, Research Analyst, RTI International
Environmental scientists need to understand flow of water and the contaminants it may transport across the landscape to help make decisions about the potential environmental effects of pollution. RTI used Oracle Spatial and its GeoRaster feature to implement a generic flow analysis procedure (the 'raindrop' tool) that calculates the path of water from any point on land to the closest surface water feature. Data sources include the National Hydrography Dataset (NHDPlus), which contains vector geometries representing the linear reaches and special waterbody polygons for wide rivers and lakes. NHDPlus also contains raster layers based on the National Elevation Dataset (NED), which provides information on the flow direction (e.g. down slope adjacent cells) for every elevation point. A demo and code samples will be shown.
Adding Online DigitalGlobe Imagery to MapViewer Applications
Mr. Dave Brett, Solutions Engineer, DigitalGlobe;
Mr. Brian Rohde, Sr. Product Manager, DigitalGlobe
The ability to add high-resolution imagery as a base layer to map-based applications and user interfaces adds value through improved usability, increased confidence in results and routes, and greater context to the information displayed in the map. This how-to session will review the capabilities of DigitalGlobe's jImageConnect for Oracle MapViewer and show how Oracle developers can begin adding imagery from one of the largest collections of high-resolution satellite and aerial earth imagery in the world. |

Visualization, Analysis and Management of 3D LiDAR Topography in Oracle Spatial 11g
Mr. Michael Smith, Physical Scientist, US Army Corps of Engineers;
Mr. David Finnegan, Research Physical Scientist, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
Ground-based and airborne laser altimetry (LiDAR) has provided the opportunity to characterize large-scale terrain and geologic processes at fine-scale resolutions. Processing and deriving information from this voluminous data can pose significant challenges. Our approach combines Oracle Spatial 11g and OSGeo projects to manage and analyze Lidar datasets. Demos and code samples will be shown.
Loading and Extracting 3D and Other Data to/from Oracle Spatial with Spatial ETL
Mr. Dale Lutz, Vice-President of Development, Safe Software
With spatial ETL tools, organizations can save a significant amount of time when loading and extracting data from/to Oracle Database and Oracle Spatial. This session uses a live demonstration to illustrate ways you can use spatial ETL to load geospatial data into Oracle Spatial 11g and then extract it in 200+ formats for use in other applications. We'll also examine ways to load 3D objects into the Oracle Spatial 11g 3D spatial data type and output this data to 3D applications like Autodesk 3ds Max.
Managing and Visualizing Large Scale 3D Data in Oracle Spatial 11g
Dr. Oreste Tommasi, Vice President 3-D R&D, ABACO srl
This presentation explains how ABACO uses the new 3D data model of Oracle Spatial 11g. The presenters will provide live demonstrations of Web3D navigation using TINs (surface modeling), point clouds (LIDAR data) and 3D building models. The solution allows real-time Web3D navigation through a large scale 3D data model stored within Oracle Spatial 11g, which also stores and manages layers of simple feature data, topology feature data, and georaster data. A case study by Veneto Strade S.p.a., together with its technology partners SITECO S.r.l. and ABACO S.r.l., will show benchmark results using billions of points stored in the Oracle Spatial 3D data model for point cloud storage, in a road cadastral survey application. |
